- There are two primary schools, S.S. Peter and Paul and Mount Road,
situated 140 and 190 metres respectively from the Tower. Residential
properties are as close as 20m to the base of the Tower. The Stewart
Report, paragraph 6.68 clearly states that
``6.68 We recommend, in relation to macrocell base stations
sited within school grounds, that the beam of greatest RF intensity should
not fall on any part of the school grounds or buildings without agreement
from the school and parents. Similar considerations should apply to
macrocell base stations sited near to school grounds. ''
Governors of Mount Primary School wrote to object to the original
application on health grounds and impact of further development on this
Listed building. Further, we understand that both St. Peter & Pauls
Primary School and Mount Primary School are also submitting objections to
this Orange appeal.
- A 100 amp power supply has been proposed in this application - enough
to power four cookers. We are given to understand from the ICNIRP
guidelines that power output from telecommunications equipment will be
kept low, and are therefore concerned as to where the 100 amps will be
directed.
- There are elements of choice involved in most risks, but there is no
choice in the 24 hour exposure to mobile phone mast emissions to which
those who live, learn and work in the vicinity are already being
subjected.
- Local residents are not only subject to stress through the perceived
health effects of these installations, but also to the stress of dealing with
continual
planning applications from mobile phone companies. An application
submitted every
few months for the previous three years requiring research, planning,
letter writing to the council, collection of some hundreds of signatures,
printing of hundreds more information leaflets, often to very tight
deadlines. Unlike most planning application procedures, those dealing with
mobile phone technology affect very large numbers of people, all of whom
need to be kept informed and given chance to voice their opinions.
- The Liberal Democrats have called for a Public Indemnity Cover to be
provided against health effects for those living within 150 metres of such
installations. Who would be willing to provide such cover since Lloyds of
London would
not5?
